AOCN stands for Adminstrative Operating Company Number. It is not the same as a Company Code or OCN (Operating Company Number)
Each company authorized to maintain data in the national routing and rating databases, on behalf of local service providers, is assigned an AOCN code. This code ties together all records maintained by the authorized updater. NECA is an authorized AOCN.
Correct data promotes proper call routing, recording and billing to occur across all the networks and systems that comprise the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
If a company's data is not kept current, network and/or billing problems may occur, resulting in a loss of revenue. Whenever a company adds a facility, is assigned a new NXX, or makes changes to their equipment or network capabilities, this must be reflected in the databases.
NECA’s experienced staff guides service providers through the regulation-laden and procedure-heavy telecommunications industry by assisting customers with:
- the assignment of various code sets such as Company Codes and numbering resources,
- the completion and submission of the Central Office Code Assignment Guide (COCAG) Part 1, Part 2 and Part 4 forms,
- identifying and resolving network problems related to routing and rating data,
- eliminating discrepancies between Tariff No. 4 (wire center) and industry routing data.
To sign up for NECA's Call Routing & Rating services, complete the Service Contract and return it to the Manager- AOCN Services.
In addition to appointing NECA as your AOCN, service providers can also authorize NECA to submit Part 1 and the mandatory Part 4 forms to NANPA on their behalf by completing, signing and returning the NANP Administration System (NAS) form.
