NECA offers a cellular SID administration service which enables companies to:
  • request a new SID assignment,
  • return an assigned SID that is no longer being used, or
  • update administrative information associated with an existing SID.

Instructions on how to obtain a new cellular SID or modify information associated with an existing SID, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions, are available to provide you with quick and easy information about this service.

System Identification Numbers, or SIDs, are 15-bit numeric identifiers used by cellular systems to identify the home system of a cellular telephone.  SIDs are also used by the cellular telephone to determine its roaming status.

In the United States, cellular SIDs were originally assigned and recorded by the FCC.  As a part of the FCC Year 2000 Biennial Regulatory Review, the Commission amended Part 22 of its rules to modify or eliminate outdated regulations affecting cellular service and authorized its Wireless Telecommunications Bureau to privatize the function of assigning and recording cellular SIDs.

Questions about NECA's Cellular SID Registration service may be sent via email to SID@neca.org or via phone to Panchali Das at (973) 884-8494 or Alfreda Cooper at (973) 884-8205.
