Company Codes are used like social security numbers to uniquely identify your company and are assigned to all telecommunications service providers.
They are used in mechanized systems throughout the industry to facilitate the exchange of information. NECA assigns all company codes, also referred to as Operating Company Numbers (OCNs).
These codes are also used in the ordering, provisioning, and billing of interstate access services. Applications of company codes include, but are not limited to:
- NECA F.C.C. Tariff No. 4
- Routing and Rating
- Access Service Requests (ASRs)
- Multiple Exchange Carrier Access Billing (MECAB)
- Small Exchange Carrier Access Billing (SECAB)
- Carrier Access Billing Systems (CABS)
- Exchange Message Interface (EMI)
- Exchange Message Record (EMR)
- Interexchange Carrier systems used to audit Exchange Carrier access bills.
Combined Entity Company Codes (CECCs)
The need for CECCs may arise when two or more entities merge and want to retain more than one Company Code in a single jurisdiction in a single category, which is not permitted under the industry standard governing the assignment of Company Codes.
A CECC, however, allows the merged entity to retain non-surviving codes by using a reference to the record of the surviving or ‘target’ legal entity company name in the Company Code database.
