Whippany, NJ – February 17, 2005 – Bill Hegmann, President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Exchange Carrier Association (NECA), is the 2005 winner of the National Telephone Cooperative Association (NTCA) Manager Life Achievement award. This award is presented to one manager to honor a lifetime of service in the rural telephone industry that best exemplifies the ideals of all rural telephone systems. Hegmann was recognized at the NTCA 2005 Annual Meeting and EXPO awards banquet in San Antonio, Texas.
“I am honored that NTCA has chosen me to receive this year’s Life Achievement Award,” said Hegmann. “I have been a part of the rural telephone industry for more than thirty years and I have worked very hard during that time to ensure that my customers received the highest level of telecommunications service that I could provide.”
In addition to serving as NECA’s Chief Executive, Hegmann is also the General Manager of the Southwest Arkansas Telephone Cooperative in Texarkana, Arkansas. Additionally, he has served as chairman of the NTCA Group Health Program Trustees, Chairman of the NECA Board, President of the Rural Telephone Finance Corporation and Vice-President of the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative.
Hegmann serves on the board of a national bank and on the executive board of the Boy Scouts where he is a Silver Beaver Award recipient. He is also a member of the Texas Telephone Association and the Arkansas Telephone Association.
