To conserve numbering resources, the FCC implemented thousands block number pooling (TBNP). This number administration and assignment process assigns numbers from a shared inventory to telecommunications carriers that are providing service within the same geographic rate center area.  All telecommunications carriers (incumbent and competitive local telephone companies and wireless providers) in the top 100 MSA-population areas must implement TBNP unless an FCC exemption applies to that company.  To help member companies understand the FCC’s numbering resources requirements, NECA has developed a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provided by the FAQ link below.  In addition, we have developed a spreadsheet that will help companies identify TBNP-specific costs, provided through the Costs Tool link below.
