In Focus: Fall 2018

By Bill Hegmann, president and CEO

In my spring communication to you, I previewed our new method of distributing Access articles. Our process is now fully operational, and as an Access subscriber you should be receiving email alerts, either weekly or on-publish (your choice) when we release a new feature. I hope you are enjoying our enhanced delivery of timely information.

Recently published articles, authored by our subject matter experts, spanned diverse topics.

With less than one year to implement, broadband network testing requirements are a priority for recipients of Connect America Fund high-cost universal service support. All the critical details contained in the July FCC order are explained.

Despite warm temperatures and hot-under-the-collar legislators, there is always cool news to share from our nation’s capital. The Washington report covers oversight, rural broadband, concern over lack of sufficient universal service funds and a couple of high profile nominations.

Three recently published articles reflect our commitment to providing relevant and timely member service. Rate reductions to our Ethernet Transport Service are tailored to assist members in meeting their customer needs. The 2019 average schedule high-cost loop universal service formula was recently filed with the FCC, calculated to ensure average schedule companies meet FCC USF reporting rules and receive payments in line with comparable cost companies. Since early last year, midmonth filings for consumer broadband-only loop rates, Subscriber Line Charges and Access Recovery Charges were offered to our members, providing rate flexibility and possibly stimulating demand growth.

In less than two months, you’ll hear about many of these same topics – and others – in greater detail at EXPO 2018 in New Orleans (November 4 through 7). Time remains for you to register if you haven’t done so, and I hope to see many of you down there.
