Make the connection at NECA EXPO 2017

By Val Kostenko, manager – IR Communications and Methods

NECA EXPO 2017 arrives at a time when our industry is abuzz with reform and change. It is a perfect venue to address, instruct and discuss the many facets of telecom that we have been facing for over a year. We have loaded our annual event (November 5-8 in San Antonio) curriculum with classes, panels and general discussions to assist our attendees in keeping abreast of the current requirements, address topics of importance to both ACAM and traditional rate-of-return companies, and cover other regulatory activity that has developed over the past year.

Monday’s general session gets right into it

Following our welcome reception on Sunday evening, November 5, our Monday morning general session will move right to the heart of the matter by opening with an EXPO perennial, the rural associations panel discussion, moderated by Jeff Dupree, NECA vice president of Government Relations. Jeff and his rural association representative panelists are poised to bring all attendees up to date on the state of regulatory change and implications of FCC and Congressional actions. Following Jeff and his panel, attendees will hear a readout of activities of the Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee. After lunch, the instructional sessions and panel discussions begin in earnest.

Monday PM, Tuesday and Wednesday all day

Monday afternoon offers a full slate of classroom sessions. Tuesday and Wednesday will commence with vendor and consultant sessions respectively, prior to the breakout sessions. While USF remains the predominant topic with sessions including the USF Reform Panel and the ACAM Panel, other important subjects are given their due as well. Here is a sampling:

  • USF Reform and Order related sessions: USF Reform Effects on Support and Rates; Average Schedule Update/USF Reform Order Implementation; Settlements Processing; Mechanics of Cost Recovery in the New World; and USF Support Disbursement Connection.

  • Foundations of Telecommunications: making its EXPO debut, the entire program is offered and will earn students a certification after attending all eight modules. Attendees are also free to attend selected modules.

  • Panel discussion topics: cybersecurity; finance; third party services; broadband; and strategic technology initiatives.

  • NECA services sessions: From Forecasts Through True-Ups – Pooling Together; Navigating NECA Resources; Opportunities Abound in Tariff #5; and Switched and Special Access Transport Options.

  • Current trends and topics: Inside the Beltway; Future of the Internet of Things; and Understanding Through Leadership.

Unique and friendly

Mark Twain once cited San Antonio as one of the four unique U.S. cities (San Francisco, Boston and New Orleans are the others). We agree and think you will enjoy the friendly and welcoming nature of this Southwest destination.

Registration is open and early bird specials are available. The Grand Hyatt San Antonio, located on the scenic River Walk, is our host. You can reserve your hotel room online or by calling 800-233-1234. Please mention you are attending NECA EXPO 2017 to receive our group rate of $209 per night, excluding tax.

We hope you can join us for what we expect to be an educational, interesting, rewarding and unique (thanks Mark Twain) experience.  Please visit our EXPO website for plenty more information, including how to download our EXPO app and bookmarking the microsite
